Derwent Valley
Published by jacko77 on Mon Aug 24th, 2009

Derwent Valley in the Peak District is full of rich woodlands that surround the banks of the River Derwent as you go through the Derwent Valley.  With the above horizon being dominated by rocky stones and the grounds covered with heather moorlands, it gives you a picture perfect moment and in the warmer months the scenery can be amazing with purple skies.

The wealth of wildlife and rare species around the valley can be astounding, some of which can't be found anyway else in England, some include the red grouse, golden plover and mountain hare which can be found in this important area of the moorlands.

With the Upper Derwent Valley containing extensive areas used for sheep gracing and the production of hay, it makes it a very important area for a majority of the birds that breed around the moorland.

As well as the valleys lush forests, amazing scenery and huge amount of wildlife scenery you will also come across a 15 mile stretch of fascinating historical mill complexes starting from the river valley in Matlock Bath to Derby.  Some of which were used as the worlds first modern factories back in the 18th century.
