Take a Chiang Mai Elephant Tour
Published by jacko77 on Tue Aug 12th, 2008

With Chiang Mai often referred to as the "capital of the north" of Thailand as it's also the gateway for many of the country's best adventures. Around 35 miles north of the city is the elephant nature park which is a great project that provides the facilities for around 30 distressed elephants from all over Thailand to get the help required, which is set in their natural environment as if they was out in the wild. The options available for you to get involved with this project range from day trips to becoming a volunteer.

If you are more of the adventurous type and fancy trekking the jungle by doing an Asian elephant tour then you need to head 30 miles north of Chiang Mai to the maetaman elephant camp where you will get an arranged route and learn the nature of the elephants by a skilled villager in jungle trekking.

As well learning about the elephants themselves you will also learn about the jungle birds, different bugs of various colours and how the locals live.
