The Bangkok Old City
Published by jacko77 on Mon Jul 6th, 2009

The Bangkok Old City is one of the ancient jewels of this modern city, it is one of the must do visits.  It is located to the eastern bank of the Chao Phraya River.  It is filled with fantastic architecture with historical value.  Once here you will feel like you have been transported back in time.

It has some of the most characteristic buildings in the country, with the Grand Palace having glittering sunshine bouncing off the coloured glass mosiac exterior of Wat Phra Kaeo, this gives the visitor an amazing taste to the entry of the Grand Palace.

Then with Wat Mahathat being a famous temple well known as the meditation centre, these are just a few historical buildings to mention.  Others include the Wat Phra Kaew, Wat Po, Golden Mount and Wat Sunhat.

The Old City is well worth the visit and should not be missed when visiting this modern day city that is now built with its sprawling expressways, overpasses and the new skytrain.  This is truly a city that as kept its ancient buildings part of its culture and heritage.
