The Koh Tao Island which is also known as “Turtle Island” are one of the best kept secrets in Thailand which as fantastic white sandy beaches, hidden coves and with its many hidden bays that are only discovered by people willing to go that extra mile, but are well worth it.

The island in general is a popular destination amongst the scuba diving and snorkelling community and as become an island hotspot within the backpacker community who are wanting to get their scuba diving certification for a relatively inexpensive cost.

The island was discovered by backpackers well over a decade ago who was looking for great locations to go scuba diving and as they arrived on their long tail boats, fishing vessels and even bamboo rafts they found out they discovered an underwater hidden kingdom.

To this day it now as over 150 resorts and estimated 50 bars in bungalow style buildings. Even though the Koh Tao island is trying to play catch up with the more upmarket resorts it’s still got the feel of paradise which is one of the reasons it still attracts the backpacker.
