Chiang Dao
Published by jacko77 on Thu Jul 2nd, 2009

Chiang Dao is a town located 70km to the north Chiang Mai and as more to experience than just the caves, with it's old style wooden shops going down the highway and hillltribes who come and visit the town to buy and sell their goods its well worth a visit.

There is a variety of different hilltribe villages which include Palong, Lahu and Karen and are situated in the rainforests east of the town itself which is able to be reached by foot or by taking an organised trekking tour.  This is one of the locations where the trekking companies situated in Chiang Mai will start and end trekking experience.

You will also come across a number of hiking trails, that run through the forest and with the Doi Chiang Dao, which is one of the biggest mountains you will come across in Thailand, there is an abundance of wildlife and spectacular views.

The local citizens of Ching Dao have built simple huts for tourists to stay in while visiting the town and with a good selection of restaurants nearby you will always be able to refuel before going on a tour into the mountains or an exploration into the caves.
