Best snorkeling sites in Thailand

Snorkeling is a very popular activity in Thailand and it is no secret that the beautiful beaches that Thailand boasts of are perfect spot for enthusiastic snorkelers. There are many undiscovered coral beds and even caves that lead to secret bays; you just need to know where. A seasoned adventure seeker in Thailand would know that the best way to enjoy your snorkeling experience is through a local boatman. But touristic operator also does a good job at taking tourists to spectacular snorkeling spots as well.
One of the best snorkeling sites in Thailand starts at Phuket. While there are many commercialized activity centers in the tiny island off the mainland, there are many undiscovered gems as well. Phi Phi Island is a must stop because it is a hub to many islands and it is approximately 1hr 30mins boat ride away from Phuket. One could also take their leave from Krabi as well. But one of the best not-so-secret snorkeling spot in Thailand is at Phi Phi Island where one could snorkel their way through a cove which leads to the infamous Maya Bay which is the set for the movie The Beach. Just tell your hired boatman where you would like to go.
After restoration, Maya Bay is breath-taking and uninhabited with crystal blue waters and white sandy beach perfect for a snorkel before heading back to your boat. Boats are definitely accessible into the bay during the high tides but are not during the low tides. This makes for a quick adventure for snorkelers as they can make their way through a sea cave and a green secondary forest patch for a small hike as well. It would be wise to bring sandals as some of the coral rocks are sharp!
