The Island with a Spanish Heritage and an American Culture
Puerto Rico is an archipelago which comprises of the island of Puerto Rico, the smallest of the Greater Antilles chain of islands and a few other small islands some of which are Mona, Vieques and Cuebra The capital coastal city of San Juan is where much of the tourist activity is concentrated. This historical colonial Spanish city has preserved much of its Spanish heritage in its old quarter which has cobblestone streets and restored Spanish colonial buildings.

Cruise ships daily disgorge passengers at the port so that they can explore the sights and sounds of San Juan. Using the city as a base the tourists continue to discover the delights of this compact island. Fajadro on the east coast is a haven for scuba divers who often refer to Puerto Rico as the Caribbean’s best kept underwater secret. Beaches such as Seven Seas Beach and Luquillo Beach are ringed by coral reefs and are ideal for swimming and scuba diving.

Breathtaking dive sites are also found near the city of quaint city of Ponce on the southwest coast including the site of ‘Blackwall’ which is covered with the Caribbean’s rare black coral.

Puerto Rico also has verdant forests such as the El Yunque rain forest which is the only rain forest of the United States National Park system. This forest is home to more than 240 species of trees and plants such as orchids and giant ferns. Several species of the native frog ‘Coqui’ are also found here. There is much to see and do on the enchanting island of Puerto Rico.
