Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu was an undiscovered gem in the world that was covered in the jungle peaks of Peru for over 400 years before it was re-discovered in 1911.  The Inca turned this site into an invisible city by placing it 2000 feet above the Urubamba river which it turn clouded the ruins.

The remaining ruins that was re-discovered were and still are in fantastic state of preservation, here you will come across palaces, temples, storage rooms and some 150 houses that have been carved out of the grey granite mountain top, which have baffled the architectural geniuses of the world.

The Inca turned the Machi Picchu into a small 5 square mile city, but with breath taking views and amazing architecture.  Most of the building blocks themselves weigh in excess of 50 tons alone.

If you decide to take the Inca trail to Machu Picchu then you will get a true taste of how the Inca's lived and all the sweat and struggle it takes to get there, but in the end it is well worth the amazing views. 

Depending on which route you take on the Inca trail will determine what building you will come across.  If you decide to go the former route into the city, you will come quarries on your left as you look down at the Urubamba on the west, then come up to the Temple of the Three Windows and the Principal Temple which as a smaller building known as the Sacristy.

The other route is the main ticket gate which will take you through a small complex of buildings to the main entrance, which will turn back on itself and lead you to the final part of the Inca trail.  Here you will come across the Watchmans Hut, which will give you a perfect view of the layout of this mystical city.
