Arequipa of Peru

Arequipa is a city in the southern end of Peru which is the second largest city in the nation.  It sits in a beautiful valley at the foot of the snow-capped Misti volcano within the highlands.  The city as many amazing buildings which is built of sillar, this is a pearly white rock from the volcanoes that is extensively used throughout the city buildings.  This is why it as been given the nickname “The White City”.

Arequipa as been influenced by both Andalusian and Spanish colonial ideas and architecture, such as the popular buildings of Santa Catalina, the Goyoneche palace and the Casa de Moral.

As well as being a city of historical importance and archaeological value, it is also the gateway to the world famous Colca Canyon which as been classed as one of the worlds deepest canyons and an ideal spot for looking at the amazing condor.
