Published by jacko77 on Wed Aug 27th, 2008
The Taman Negara National Park in Malaysia is one of the oldest rainforests in the world. It is 130 million years old, 4343 square kilometers and is home to many endangered animals. The Taman Negara National Park is the perfect place for jungle trekking because it is largely untouched and has good facilities and trails to cater to both experienced and inexperienced jungle trekkers.
The national park encompasses three states in Malaysia – Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu. The rainforest covers 2/3rd of the Pahang state making much of the state’s industry an eco-touristic spot that aims at conservation. For the seasoned trekkers, the Taman Negara is an exceptional place to trek as a large part of the forest remains undiscovered. It is wise to get a trekking guide to take you around the rainforest although you could technically trek your way around. Hiring a local guide is a positive contribution as it gives direct benefits to the local community that will economically empower the locals to further pursue conservation of the natural rainforest. A local guide will also be your best bet in tracking some of the forest’s most elusive creatures.
Gunung Tahan, located within the Taman Negara, is the tallest peak in the peninsula of Malaysia. Jungle trekkers will have a choice of trekking on the landed route or the route to either of these locations. A canopy trail is also available for the common trekkers who visit the national park to escape the city life.Jungle trekking in Taman Negara National park is the start of the various activities that can be found there. It is a medium of transportation to other activities such as cave exploration, white water rafting, mountain hiking, kayaking and more.
