Venice In Italy
Published by jacko77 on Wed Sep 30th, 2009

Venice is an amazing city with beautiful sights and fantastic architecture that lives up to its name, with close to 20 million visitors a year.  Famous for it's singing gondoliers, glass ornaments and fantastic festivals it no wonder its one of the most visited cities in Europe.

It is made up with 118 islands that is separated into six districts known as sestieri.  With San Marco being within the lower area of the Canal Grande and home to some of the most essential sights in Venice it is usually the first port of call.  Then you have Castello which is on the east of the city, Cannaregio to the north.

On the other side of the Canal Grande is Dorsoduro which is the largest of the districts and as some of the finest architecture to be found in Venice.
