Corcovado National Park
Published by jacko77 on Mon Jun 15th, 2009

Corcovado National Park is a backpacking haven and will offer any keen traveller an experience of a lifetime.  It is the only remaining old growth of wet forests on the Pacific Coast of the central American continent.  It also has 13 major ecosystems which include the lowland rain forest, highland cloud forest, mangrove swamps and the beach habitats.

With there being so much variety of inhabitants with the Corcovado National Park, there is a good chance that you will be able to spot some of the most endangered species.  Such as the Jaguars, red-backed squirrel monkey or harpy eagles.

The national park is very wet and remote, with it’s rough terrain that gives any keen walker a run for their money if they decide to go off track, but the trails themselves are very good and the several camping sites around the park are near the ranger stations, which are grassy and well connected to the drainage systems.

If you like the sound of experiencing the golden beaches which are covered with palm trees, then going for a quick dip in the waterfalls to feel refreshed.  Then you will have no problem in doing it for real with the Corcovado’s 20 plus miles of untouched paradise.

When To Visit

With the national park being wet most of the year your chances of getting wet are high when ever you visit, so there is no particular good time to go in the so called dry season, but if you prefer to go in the drier season, that is through the months January to April.
