Costa Rica Traditions
Published by jacko77 on Wed Jun 24th, 2009

Costa Rica traditions is deeply based around the two most important things that the Costa Ricans value the most, these are the countries religion and the family.  A majority of Costa Rica is rooted in the catholic faith and this is where a lot of the traditions come from.

The country is indeed one of the most colourful and exciting places to visit, with the costumes being based around the ancestors from other cultures such as Spain, Africa and Italy you will truly get a multi-cultural taste.

El Portal y El Rezo is one of the more popular traditions of Costa Rica.  It is a Christmas tradition where the people will create figurines and decorations and put them up in early December until January, but the baby Jesus will not go on display until 12am on Christmas day.   The ticos have to invite all their close friends and family for a time of pray followed by eggnog which also includes snacks.  They also have Tamales which is usually made with the grandma recipe.

Other major traditions include the Virgen de los Angeles and Easter Week.
