Costa Rica Culture
Published by jacko77 on Wed Jun 24th, 2009

Costa Rica culture is a vibrant and colourful nation that is very laid back and relaxed with a lot of focus on the open-air events and entertainment. Here you will find a festival going on somewhere in Costa Rica nearly every week, just so they have something to celebrate. A popular festival, which attracts people from all around the world is the Puerto Limon carnival.  You will find some of the most colourful species on the planet, plenty of well decorated oxcarts and learn some folk dancing while immersing into the local culture.

With the family unit being one of the most important aspects of the Costa Rican culture you will find most social events centred around the family, it is also common to come across extended family units.

Children don’t usually leave the house until they get married, but you will come across generational families who live as one big unit under one roof.

Soccer is a favourite pastime event with the people of Costa Rica, the fans are very loyal to whichever team they support.  When it comes to the national team, the people flock in droves to go and watch them, in the event of a victory the locals will be celebrating out on the streets until early hours of the morning.
