Surfing the beaches of Costa Rica

Costa Rica as been one of the best surfer paradise's around the globe for quite a while now, so it is of no surprise that this is where you will find some of the most popular surfer hotspots for anyone just waiting for their perfect break. With the beaches being on less crowded side and more pristine there is no wonder that it attracts the surfer wanting to get away from the crowds.

With Costa Rica having great weather conditions all year round and warm water temperatures on both sides of the country. It as plenty of famous surfing breaks that gives the surfer plenty of choice.

With the waves here being big and with the many reef breaks that will be found along the coastline you have to be ready for a long and fast ride. However with some of the best breaks being unreachable by car because of poor road conditions, you have to be willing to go the extra mile because it will be worth the trip.

While there is many popular surfing locations around the coasts of Costa Rica, the top destinations currently are Playa Hermosa, Salsa Brava, Witches Rock and Pavones. Some other surf points to consider around Costa Rica are Santa Teresa, Dominical and Playa Negra.

If you were to plan on going surfing on the Atlantic coast, then the surfing season as a whole is not very long and the waves come from the Mexican coast and are created by tropical storms.

On the pacific coast however the waves are a lot more consistent and can be usually found between the months of April and October, but it is between the months of November and April when the surf will be at its cleanest.
