The land of ‘Pura Vida’- Pure Life
The Republic of Costa Rica located in Central America borders the Caribbean Sea to the east, the North Pacific Ocean to the West and Nicaragua to the North. Costa Rica which possesses only 0.1% of the earth’s land mass has 5% of the world’s biodiversity and over 15 different ecosystems. Luxuriant Rain forests teeming with exotic flora and fauna, white sand beaches, active volcanoes and high mountains are all part of the Costa Rican landscape.

The country is also famous for its approach towards conservation and ecotourism. Nearly a quarter of the country is protected and spread over seventy five national parks and reserves. The Pacific coast of Costa Rica is more developed for tourism than the Caribbean coast. Scenic seaside villages and towns cater to numerous tourists who enjoy trawling the simmering sand beaches and indulging recreational activities like surfing, snorkeling, sunbathing, deep sea fishing, kayaking and river cruising.

Jacó is a hedonistic beach front resort town popular with tourists. Parks like Reserva Natural Absoluta Cabo Blanco and Parque Nacional Manuel Antonio located here have pristine beaches as well as well defined trails to observe the native birds and animals such as iguanas, monkeys, sloths and agoutis. In the North West region, are the two Cordilleras mountain ranges with the Montverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve located in the Cordillera Tilarán Range. This nature reserve with its misty dewy ambience is a protected enclave where the number of visitors at a time is restricted. The forest canopy is alive with over four hundred species of birds and over a hundred species of mammals. The Cordillera de Guanacaste is a volcanic range which contains the active Arenal Volcano. Lake Arenal separates the two mountain ranges. Lying further north is the vast wetland area on which is located the wildlife reserve of Caño Negro where one can observe a number of different species of flora and fauna. Costa Rica with its treasure trove of nature’s bounty is the jewel of Central America.
