Rio De Janerio Carnival
Published by jacko77 on Wed Jul 8th, 2009
Rio De Janerio Carnival is the most well known carnival in the world, with up to 500,000 visitors and 1 million locals attending it each year the atmosphere is electrical. The carnival takes place over a period of four days and is usually held in the middle of February but on different dates each year.
With three to five thousand people from all over Rio attending different samba schools and preparing for it all year round. You will get to experience floats of different styles and sizes, music themes from cultural backgrounds, some of the most amazing costumes and onlookers partying the streets until early hours of the morning.
Carnival goers can also attend the Carnival Balls and even the samba school nights where you have the chance to learn some dancing and performing moves by the performers themselves. You will come across a lot of drum music played on the floats which originates from the African culture.
However if you want more of a authentic carnival in Brazil then you should consider going to the Salavador or Olinda carnivals. Both of these have more of a Brazilian feel to them and less tourists.
