Paraty, Brazil West Of Rio
Published by jacko77 on Thu Jul 16th, 2009

Paraty is one of the most charming colonial towns that is located about 295km to the west of Rio city and as in recent years become a popular destination for tourists, because of its historical heritage and great coastlines and mountains that are in view of the town.

The towns population is around 30,000 and are involved with the fishing, farming and tourism industry.  With its narrow streets built from coble stone for the purpose of draining off the stormy water and allowing the sea to enter to clear the streets it gives it a very village type filling.

The local community have all put an out of bounds restriction on all motor veichles for travelling on the cobble stone built roads, which gives you the feeling of a culture that is totally unchanged from when it was first discovered in the 1660's.

With a town that used to serve as the exportation site of gold it seems to have stopped in time, it gives the visitors a real cultural experience with its historical buildings, musical festivals, lush clean beaches and nearby mountains its a great taste of how the locals used to live.
